Choice

Many of our courses help you to gain essential experience from a ‘hands on’ perspective from marketing to finance to HR. You could take part in your own community initiative and meet some inspirational business leaders on the way to gaining the business skills you need for a job in a business setting or a university course.

On our office based courses, your real time experience starts by learning on the job in our specialist office suites. Each mirrors a real life business using the most up-to-date business software. Our students are so sought after by local companies – many are offered jobs during their work placements. From the very start, you could find yourself trading internationally through one of the Virtual Companies.

And all under the guidance of specialist experienced staff.

“I came to a work choices course and I never would have thought that I would have been capable of achieving a variety of level 2 qualifications that I have achieved so far. My confidence has grown immensely and the work experience skills I have learnt from being in the Accounts Department within Clean Sweep has given me a much better chance of gaining employment in an office environment in the future”.

Janine Moss

“Not only do we get to learn the theory side to working in an office, we also get to experience what it is like to work in an office and help run a business. I never would have had the confidence to go into Accounts but this course has provided me with the opportunity to train in the Accounts Department in a safe environment”.

Kayleigh Taylor

“Being a mature student on this course I think it is a very good grounding for people of all ages to grasp the ethics of working both in an office environment and working with people of all ages and backgrounds. I wish I had this course when I started work first. I know that all the students realise this when they actually start work”.

Which part of the course do you enjoy teaching most?

I particularly enjoy teaching strategy as part of the strategic management second year module, Strategic Business Analysis. It’s an exciting, dynamic module that gives me a chance to connect with students and encourage their thoughts and growing perceptions on how strategy in business today can make or break organisations.

Are there any misconceptions about the industry that you’d like to see change?

Business is often thought of as being a little boring with few and far between opportunities for success within it. This viewpoint couldn’t be further from the truth. Today business is prevalent in all aspects of society and the workplace. New business start-ups and entrepreneurships offer tangible opportunities for progression with a view to independence as well as career progression. What could be more exciting than being your own boss!

What did you do before teaching?

I followed a successful career for 18 years in both private and public sector organisations holding down senior management roles in the logistics, retail and home computing sectors.

What are people always surprised to learn about you?

I have a passion for all things VW Camper van and own a 1972 Bay Window Australian Kombi touring caravan. I’ve owned it now for about five years and really enjoy doing it up and going on camping trips to West Wales in it with my family.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

Helping students to both successfully complete their course as well as developing their own vital business acumen and far reaching skills. I draw a great sense of satisfaction in being part of this process.

What’s the one piece of advice you would give to your 18 year old self?

I would make a plan for my future and not just work hard to achieve it but work harder still, as well as have fun along the way.

Which business person do you admire?

It’s got to be Sir Richard Branson. He is so creative, sustainable and his business ideas push the Virgin brand beyond the ‘envelope’ making it one of the most recognised in our nation. He is also a great philanthropist.
