“My Catering course at the college has given me an insight into the profession. Although we have written assignments we also work in the training restaurants in the college and attend external events such as The Cheltenham Gold Cup. The experience helps us to gain confidence in a very customer focussed industry”.

Stephanie Bosanko

Ian Presgrave - Catering and Hospitality Lecturer
Ian Presgrave

What do you teach at Coleg y Cymoedd?

I teach Catering and Hospitality at Level 1, 2 and 3 alongside Welsh Baccalaureate Level 1 and 2. I have been teaching for approximately 4-5 years.

What is your greatest achievement during your time with us?

No great achievement stands out but knowing that learners will leave as better people socially and skilled in their chosen field is rewarding. Training the learners for competitions and watching them excel is also very rewarding but not an achievement as I feel this what we are paid to do, to inspire.

Tell us about your career and experience in Industry: I trained at North Warwickshire college of Technology and Art. I worked in the Cheltenham area in various 2 rosette establishments then moved to Leamington spa and worked in a 1 Michelin star Hotel.

I was head chef at Miskin Manor Hotel for 12 years with 2 rosettes gained. Having worked under some very talented chefs (some famous) my knowledge and skill base is now being put to use in a different way. My PGCE followed and I started working in Bridgend College before being offered a contract at Coleg y Cymoedd. My teaching time is split between Ystrad Mynach and Nantgarw campuses.

Tell us about your qualifications

I achieved ‘O’ Levels in English Language, English Literature, Mathematics, Physics, Physical Education, History, Metalwork and Home Economics

Since then I have achieved a number of qualifications in Cookery and Pastry before studying my Post Graduate Certificate of Education and TAQA Assessor awardto enable me to teach.

Something interesting about you: I am very ambitious in anything I undertake. I was a keen amateur boxer, in my school days!
