Training for Employers

Apprenticeships

If you are employed or self-employed, an apprenticeship could be for you. You will receive top quality training, develop your skills and gain qualifications on the job.

As an employee you will earn a wage and work alongside experienced staff to gain job specific skills. You will undertake training towards a nationally recognised qualification. Apprenticeships are open to all learners aged 16-25.

On applying for an apprenticeship you will be invited to attend an interview, and you will also be required to undertake an initial assessment in literacy and numeracy to establish any support required.

Foundation Apprenticeship (Level 2)
You will work towards a QCF-NVQ Certificate Level 2 in your chosen vocational area together with a Technical Certificate, Essential Skills Wales and an ERR workbook. You will receive off the job training which may include attendance at college. You will be assigned a work based assessor who will visit you in your workplace and monitor your progress. On completion you will have the opportunity to progress to a Level 3 Apprenticeship.

You must be aged under 25 to start this programme.

Apprenticeship (Level 3)
You will work towards a QCF-NVQ Diploma Level 3 in your chosen vocational area together with a Technical Certificate, Essential Skills Wales and an ERR workbook. You will be assigned a work based assessor who will visit you in your workplace and monitor your progress. After completing the Apprenticeship at Level 3 you could move onto a Higher Apprenticeship or Higher Education course at University or at Coleg y Cymoedd.

You must be aged under 25 to start this programme.

Higher Apprenticeships
The Higher Apprenticeship is a work based programme for employed people working in a management role. This programme provides opportunities to achieve qualifications at Level 4 and 5. The Higher Apprenticeship provides subsidised training that is specific to the employer’s industry sector, alongside Essential Skills Wales and a Technical certificate.

Railway Training Apprenticeship
Coleg y Cymoedd has joined forces with McGinley Support Services to offer an exciting new Rail Apprenticeship Programme at the new multimillion pound Centre of Excellence for Railway Training at Nantgarw.

You will follow the Apprenticeship in Rail Track Engineering, a Level 2 qualification; which will enable you to train in a realistic environment to become equipped with the knowledge and skills to work in the rail track industry.

You must be aged 18-24 to start this programme (industry requirements).
