Kate Barton
Since leaving college I have been lucky enough to work full time at Welsh National Opera as a ladies costume maker on shows such as La Traviata, Madame Butterfly and Die Meistersinger Von Nurnberg.
The Costume course gave me so many high level skills and the chance to work with Theatre and Film companies. I had a many opportunities during my college course to do various work experience placements including 4 months as costume maker/assistant on the BBC production Young Dracula, and working on a live project with the Welsh National Youth Opera production Maisey Day, where we were able to work as an actual costume department and see how a show is conceived, then developed; it was great to see how all aspects worked together.

Samantha Jones
The Costume course gave me the skills and confidence to go directly into the industry; I had the experience during the course of working alongside the costume designer for Theatre Mappa Mundi’s The Importance of being Earnest, interpreting his designs to achieve the desired outcome. My tutors supported me throughout the construction of the garment and to problem solve whilst sewing and helped my understand the principles of dress fittings and the importance of professionalism within the fittings, really gaining knowledge of the industry. During the course I worked professionally on tour for Theatre Na n’Og as a wardrobe assistant with one other college student. This was a major step for me to build my contacts and experience with professionals within the industry, and learnt all aspects of running a wardrobe department on tour for 6 weeks. I worked alongside directors, designers and actors and even had a role on stage! At the end of the 2 years I was involved with the WNO Max project for Sweeny Todd, constructing 2 principle costumes from the designers’ sketches, and was involved with the fittings and alterations of my costumes.
Since leaving the Costume course at Coleg Morgannwg in June 09 I have had wide ranging freelance Costume work on the Sound of Music; Les Miserables on tour; a Dresser for Swan Lake, Hairspray; WNO Dresser; Costume Designer/Supervisor Feature Film Masterpiece and more recently the Birmingham Royal Ballet. I’m loving what I am doing and am already set up with work for the next couple of years! |

Kim Tizard Lee
This degree not only gave me the confidence as a pattern cutter and maker to work on any job and within any team professionally, but also helped me to always challenge and push myself so that my work will be made and carried out to the highest professional standards. The course also gave me my first foot steps into the industry I have always dreamed of working in.
Since graduating in June 2010 I have worked on a range of productions including costume supervisor on 3 feature films and a music video ; I have made some amazing friends and contacts, and I hope that the future will be just as challenging and exciting.
